Women in Computer Occupations
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in Computer Occupations is projected to
grow 11 percent from 2019 to 2029 and add an additional 531,200 new jobs! The projected growth is
much faster that all other occupations and women represented 47 percent of the total workforce for the
past 3 years. While representing a significant percent of the total workforce population, women have
nonetheless been historically under-represented in Computer Occupations as follows:
Bridging the gap for minorities in technology
A Deutsche Bank research report estimated “that 76% of Blacks and 62% of Hispanics could get shut out or be under-prepared for 86% of jobs in the United States by 2045.” The research concluded that if the “digital racial gap is not addressed, in one generation alone, digitization could render the country’s minorities into an unemployment abyss”.
